Hi Guys. It’s Sunday in Canada today, so I’m sending out another playlist. This one is called These Days. I did a little curating on it recently, so there’s 12 songs now instead of 10. What I like to do with my playlists, is put on my headphones and play them in the background while I’m writing or surfing. Seems like I get more done when part of my brain is distracted by music. Anyway, hope you like the new list.
A couple of days ago, I posted that it was my birthday and could people please buy a copy of my album or stream a few of my tunes on Spotify. And today, I see there’s a bump in my numbers. Not a huge bump mind you, but you know… discernible. So, there IS love out there if you can find a way to tap it. Too bad I can only do the birthday thing once a year. 🙂
Hello Everyone. This Sunday’s Playlist is a link to my album, Mystic Journeys. Featuring 11 original songs including These Days, Don’t You Ever Wonder Why and Away Yo Go Flying, the album is available right now on all major streaming and distribution platforms. Please check it out:
Hi guys. I just wanted to say thanks for all your views, likes, comments etc. related to my recent YouTube video: A Valentine for Carole. There was a time when I used to smirk at the social-media obsessed that had to check their daily scores on all platforms to tally up their self worth. And now, it turns out that I am one them, just as bad if not worse.
There is, however, another less self-centric reason that I am pleased with the attention the video garnered. It is clear from the comments received that it was Carole and our love for each other that resonated with people. In our modern world, where hate seems to capture more and more of our attention, it was encouraging to me that our story—essentially a love story—was able to capture people’s attention and give them a moment of pleasure on a day that’s supposed to be devoted to love.
Here are a few of my favourite comments:
Arwen E. MacDogooder, Facebook: “Oh my God. That’s so freaking adorable.”
Paula Bowie, Facebook: “She is a beautiful catch!”
Gemma Cowan, Facebook: “What a lovely expression of your love and life together.”
Shirley Jones, Facebook: “Amazing. What a superb valentine gift. Thank you for sharing. Made my day.”
Donetta Byrd, Twitter: “Sweet video and catchy tune! What did she think?” Reply: She said, “That’s so sweet. I hope it doesn’t go viral.”
Isabella, Twitter: “Love the song !!!”
Demian Pettman, You Tube: “Great tune! Very catchy and sweet. Nice vocals Paula 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day Carol ❤ Thanks for sharing a bit of your life!”

My album, Mystic Journeys, is all set for release next Friday, Jan. 31st. It should be available for sale on itunes, CD Baby and most streaming services like Spotify and Deezer. If you don’t see it right away on your favourite service, just wait a while. It will be there eventually.
It seems a little surreal to be finally letting it go. I guess it would be fair to say that it’s been a long time coming. I actually wrote part of one of the songs, Starting Out, more than 40 years ago. Others like Slipping Away and Don’t You Ever Wonder Why first saw the light of day in the early 90s.
And then there’s Away You Go Flying, which I wrote a few days before the end of 2019. I actually had the whole album ready to go when that song first started percolating in my brain. I thought it might be a good one, and I decided to delay the album release so I could add it. I laid down the vocal and guitar as a single track, and then I added drums and other percussion, a complicated bass line and I started experimenting with a fiddle melody. But then I thought, no. It should just be the original vocal-guitar track. It’s more honest that way. More authentic. And what could be more authentic or honest than a song about your dead Mother?
Anyway, it’s coming out Friday. I’ll post again after the release with links to samples etc. Hope you like it.
